So You Want to be a Stripper?

This article was written by a staff writer at G String Nation. It may be reprinted, in whole or in part, as long as proper credit is given to gstringnation.com as the source.

We recently received an email from a girl asking for information on how to become a dancer. So being the experts that we are at G String Nation, we decided to write our first in-house article on the subject.

The first thing to do if you want to be a dancer is to call a local club and set up an appointment for an audition. Now if you don’t want to work too close to where you live (which is sometimes not a good idea) you can pick a club that is further away. How far away will depend on whether or not you want to come home from the club every night, or stay over a few days in a location a little bit further away.

One thing to consider when choosing a club to work at is what kind of club you want to work at. Do you want to work at a nude club or just a topless club? Do you want to work at a lap dancing club with a lot of contact or would you rather just dance topless for dollars in your g-string with limited contact? And if you choose a lap dancing club you may want investigate just how far the lap dances go in that particular club. Things are getting pretty sleazy in some clubs out there these days, and you may want to avoid those, especially as a beginner.

We don’t recommend just showing up on the doorstep. You’ll be thought of in a more professional way if you call first. You’re also much more likely to find the person in charge of hiring there when you show up if you have an appointment, rather than some club employee without hiring power that may just be wasting your time for his own amusement.

In preparation for going to your audition you will need to get a few things. First and foremost will be a pair of heels. Second will be a sexy outfit of some kind. What kind of outfit will depend on how high-end a club it is, but for most clubs a skimpy little short dress of some kind or a sexy lingerie outfit will work for an audition.  And of course you will need do to your makeup either before you get there or at the club before you audition. We recommend showing up in full makeup so as to make the best impression when you arrive.

That’s pretty much all you need to bring with you. Most clubs will have music that you can dancer to, so you won’t need to bring your own. It’s good to have an idea in advance of what songs you might like to dance to, so you can just tell the DJ instead of having him pick something out for you that might not be your style.

Now if you’re a little nervous, we recommend perhaps having a small cocktail to relax your nerves. But just a small one! Showing up plastered and drooling is no way to get a job, any job, even as a stripper. Just one to relax you, and you’ll be fine.

Once you’re there for your audition, just give it your best shot. Keep in mind that clubs survive by having new girls, so they want to hire you as much as you want to get hired. Now for a new girl, how you look is definitely the most important thing. But there are all kinds of looks that guys like. Many guys like big-breasted girls, but just as many like small-breasted ones. Any many guys like skinny girls, but some (mostly black) like girls with big butts. So don’t fret if you’re not one type or the other. Most clubs like to hire all different types of girls for the varying tastes of their clientele.

As far as actually knowing how to dance to work in a strip club, it’s not that crucial. Many girls in the club simply strut around, and for the most part this will work. But the more you dance, and the more comfortable you get on the stage, the better you will get. And if you’re a good dancer, you’ll attract more attention when you’re on the stage, and that should translate into more money in your pocket.

Learning pole tricks will be an important part of becoming a good stripper. Some of the simpler ones you’ll be able to pick up yourself by watching the other girls. The more complicated ones can be taught to you by the other girls and will need practice to master. Don’t be shy about asking a girl who’s good on the pole to help you out. More than likely she’ll be happy to show off her own technique by teaching it to you.

Now when you walk into a club on an audition or for your first booking, don’t expect the girls already working there to instantly warm to you. Especially if you’re pretty, they probably won’t welcome you with open arms. Afterall, they’re concerned for their money and they may see you as a potential threat to that money. However, that will only be at the very beginning. Once they realize that you’re there to stay, in most cases, you’ll pretty quickly become just one of the girls.

One thing we can’t stress enough is that this is not the old days and you don’t have to blow anybody to get a job in a strip club anymore. If during the audition, or early on in your dancing career, a club owner or employee pressures you into doing anything sexual to get or keep your job, find another club to work at. This is 2008. There are plenty of clubs out there to work at and plenty of clubs where you’ll be treated professionally and with respect.

Once you get the job, all you’ll have to worry about is making your schedule. You’ll definitely want to work the good money days and shifts, but in order to get them the club may also require you to work some less desirable days and shifts. There’s always a give and take between what the club needs and what the dancer wants. But through compromise it usually works out. Just remember, it’s not only about you. The club you work at is a business and helping that business to be successful is beneficial to everyone who works there.

Now get out there and make that money, girl.
